After graduating from King College, John was called in 1969 to minister Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church in Southern Virginia.
In 1977, John was called to minister Independent Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Memphis, TN. During his time at Independent, John also authored the often referenced booklet What Christian Parents Should Know About Infant Baptism, published in 1985.
